With school getting back into full swing, it’s no secret that we could all use a little boost in getting back into the daily grind. Studying, memorizing and presenting is not an easy feat for any of us, and memorizing pages of material for those dreaded exams is probably one of the most stressful parts of college.
In an effort to add a little fun to the memorization process, Coca-Cola has launched the Crammer Keeper, a free new online tool that turns notes into catchy tunes…helping you memorize your notes in a new and fun way. Users can select the voice, choose a track genre (hip hop, rock, etc.) and then download the song onto their computers and share with their classmates and friends. Might as well turn your boring notes into a hip hop single, right?
It gets better, though – to help spread the word around the launch of the Crammer Keeper, Coca-Cola is giving away an iPod Touch to one lucky CF reader! Read on for all the details on how to win!

If it’s a test on a lot of material directly from notes, I think the best thing to do is to study with other people in the class. Reading it out loud and quizzing each other helps to solidify the info, and it’s also an opportunity to combine notes, in case you happened to miss something in class. Make sure you choose to study with people who aren’t goof-offs, though, or it will be a total waste of time. Study with people you know are committed students, and even seek out the people who are acing the class, even if they aren’t your close friends, because they’ll challenge you to work harder.
Keep up with the material! (Do readings before lecture, make sure you understand homeworks, go to office hours, review lecture notes each weekend) That way, you’re not cramming right before an exam but instead reviewing and reinforcing everything. Also, for classes with a lot of memorization, it’s extremely helpful to repeat everything out loud. This forces you to really know things by heart and be able to recall them instantly!
The best study tip I can think of is trying to explain the concept/theory to someone else. It could be a classmate, a friend, your dog — it doesn’t matter. I know I have a good grasp on something if I can fully explain it in detail to someone. It’s better than blindly memorizing facts and data because you UNDERSTAND it, rather than having simply read the material.
Saying things aloud is a sure-fire way to memorize. The sound of your own voice helps things stick in your head. For me, I have to have almost-silence when I memorize things, so that other noise doesn’t get stuck in my head instead. If I’m trying to memorize 20 difficult theories or processes, I don’t want Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R” to get stuck in my head instead. Next thing you know, you’re at your exam “dancing like you’re dumb”. 🙂
I make sure to start to prepare at least a week ahead of my exams. I try to keep up with all practice problems but if that happens to get pushed aside, in this week I can usually make up for the previous slacking. Also, in that week, make sure to spend at least half the study time a day for the up and coming exam so you are prepared and do not have to cram. Good luck!
My best study tip is to actually READ the text book instead of just focusing on the PowerPoint study notes that many of my professors provide. Both of these combined is usually my best effort for preparing for an exam!
My study tip is to first review my notes, then do practice problems i have created. After this, I rewrite any big ideas or equations by hand on flashcards so I am able to memorize them better.
The best way to study for a test or even a final exam is to review the material and try to paraphrase it in your own words. That way you’ll understand the material instead of trying to cram and memorize something that foes not make sense at all.
All small assignments should be finished before test season. Readings/online quizzes should all be finished to avoid panicking WHILE studying for the big tests. And read all required materials for the course, whether you think it will help or not (unless the professor says that the class is mostly lecture based). Then I talk myself through problems 🙂
The basics are highlighting and flash cards. The more colorful the better!! Analogies are also super helpful for literature tests and quizzes.
When it comes to scribbling down notes in class, my notebooks get ugly pretty fast: lots of cross-outs, redundancies, coffee spills, etc. So when it comes to hardcore studying, I always re-organize my notes to make them more coherent and polished! I type or hand write them with bullet points, color codes for key ideas, anything to make them more attractive. If my notes look good, I’m much more motivated to look at them.
My tips: handwriting notes, colour coding (lots of highlighters and organizing required), good music, and a good night’s sleep. Caffiene like coca cola is key as well.
When I study and have to memorize something, either vocabulary words or the name of some scientist and the theorem he created, I sing them. Putting these otherwise boring, uninteresting things into some kind of tune or jingle makes me remember them easier, especially when I think of how much a goof I am for doing it in the first place.
I can memorize the words to the latest Kanye song in no time, so I always make my notes into a rap. Works every time for me!!!
I like to read over my notes as much as possible.
My best study tip would be when using flashcards to say eveything out loud that way you’re adding auditory learning to the visual and tactile learning that comes with cards.
