With school getting back into full swing, it’s no secret that we could all use a little boost in getting back into the daily grind. Studying, memorizing and presenting is not an easy feat for any of us, and memorizing pages of material for those dreaded exams is probably one of the most stressful parts of college.
In an effort to add a little fun to the memorization process, Coca-Cola has launched the Crammer Keeper, a free new online tool that turns notes into catchy tunes…helping you memorize your notes in a new and fun way. Users can select the voice, choose a track genre (hip hop, rock, etc.) and then download the song onto their computers and share with their classmates and friends. Might as well turn your boring notes into a hip hop single, right?
It gets better, though – to help spread the word around the launch of the Crammer Keeper, Coca-Cola is giving away an iPod Touch to one lucky CF reader! Read on for all the details on how to win!

The way I study is to slowly absorb everything. I can never remember things if I cram at the last minute. So what I do is go to lectures and take notes. Review my notes and look over homeworks a couple of days before the exam. Then, the day before the exam, I don’t really do anything but relax. ^^ Usually I would be too anxious to go to sleep, but a good night sleep before the exam is the best way to go.
I take all my notes by hand. It sounds simple, but physically writing them out rather than typing them helps me remember.
I compile my written notes into a one- or two-page summary sheet that I use to review before my exams. Sometimes I have to write really small to fit everything, but this forces me to look over all my notes to really understand the main, important points, and I feel more motivated to study one or two pages of notes instead of all of the ones I took in class!
To study I turn on some calming music, grab a mug of green tea or coffee, and go over my notes. I start about a week ahead of time so I’m not cramming at the last minute, but taking it slowly and one day at a time.
I use a flashcard website for studying. It is helpful because it has all of the flashcards you need in one area, organized and dated so they are easy to identify and find. Also, copying what you need to learn by writing it down a few times is a really good way to memorize!
Sit at a desk – for me, anything else causes distractions!
The method that works best for me is recording all of my lectures. This way, if I fall
asleep sometime during my 9AM class (it happens) I am able to listen to it later
when I review my notes for tests. This also helps for when your professor speaks
really fast, or if English isn’t your first language. You can also help out your friends
by sending them the recording of the lectures that they missed.
But the most importantly, you should ask for permission first before recording 🙂
You retain the most information right before you go to sleep. The moment you wake up, the last thing you read will still be on your mind. This is why I like to study my vocabulary using flash cards right before bed!
I like to study with someone, so we can teach the other what’s on the test. In addition to that, I start out the night with snacks on hand so I’m not distracted by hunger or getting snacks
I have two — make study dates with others to keep yourself accountable, and us online flash cards in your spare time! 🙂
The Crammer Keeper sounds like an awesome idea. My middle school English teacher taught us prepositions in song-form, and to this day, I can still sing it. I definitely recommend finding a catchy, music-infused way to remember your studies, because IT WORKS.
I write down all the exam dates in my calendar/planner so I know ahead of time when a bunch are coming up. Helps me plan ahead.
I find that the secret to successful studying is using the method which suits the subject matter. This means I use different tactics for different types of classes to help me retain the information more effectively.
Humanities, Psychology, Biology and other note heavy classes:
I create a large study board (or sometimes wall!) and fill it with post its containing facts, pictures, notes and etc. This works because it helps you remember the smaller details like dates, names and etc. but also helps you make connections and ace the essay question on the test.
Tip: Having friends help you makes the process fun and you can quiz each other while putting things up!
Math, Science and other concept heavy classes:
The best way for me is to spend a little bit of time reviewing and then to reteach everything I learn to a friend, family member or anybody with a little bit of patience and free time. This helps me absorb and understand what I’m learning, and ensures I have a firm grasp on the material.
Tip: I also recommended going through old tests/quizzes and problem sets and reteaching the ones you got wrong so that you fully understand the problem and your mistake/s.
English and other connections heavy classes:
I find that group studying works best for these type of classes. Get a couple of friends together, bring some yummy snacks and discuss all the themes and topics that you will need to know for the exam. Through this method, you review the material, come up with connections that you might not have reached on your own, and remember more details.
Tip: Debating with friends helps! This makes you formulate an argument and organize evidence backing it. You can use this for the essay on your exam.
Hope these tips help!
I always make up little sayings to memorize the information!
My best study tip is a bit strange. When I’m going to study, I always turn the lights really low, and get a cup of tea. I feel like if you’re stressed, studying isn’t going to help. But if you are relaxed and calm, you’ll do great on your exams.
I like to listen to classical music when I need to do heavy reading. Might sound nerdy, but it really helps me focus!
