Fall is finally here, and it’s time to start bringing out the long sleeves. In my opinion, it’s never too early to do a post about one of my favorite clothing items — the cardigan, a super versatile piece that is a must for every closet.
They are easy to layer with and will keep you extra warm for when it gets even colder underneath your puffer jackets.

I love creating different looks with cardigans for fall, and below are three cardigan outfits with different lengths, textures, and prints!
Table of Contents
Cardigan Outfit 1:
Products:
- Cardigan – Nordstrom
- Top – Net-A-Porter
- Jeans – Revolve
- Boots – Urban Outfitters
- Beanie – Carhartt
- Lip Primer – W7 Cosmetics
- Lipstick – Charlotte Tilbury
For this comfy-casual cardigan outfit, I used a bright orange fluffy textured cardigan. This catches the eye and keeps you looking sleek, even when the rest of your outfit is casual.
Underneath, I added a white long sleeve top and a pair of black jeans. The rip in these jeans makes them feel casual, but you could choose a plain pair if you wanted an all-around clean look.
To finish the look, grab some chunky black boots that have a zipper all down the front, then swipe on some lip color. This lip primer from W7 Cosmetics is an absolute must-have — it makes your lips look flawless, no matter how dry they get in winter! And this Charlotte Tilbury lipstick is truly splurge-worthy.
This would be a great outfit idea for a day spent running around campus.
Cardigan Outfit 2:
Products:
- Cardigan – Lord & Taylor
- Turtleneck – & Other Stories
- Leggings – Spanx via Zappos
- Sneakers – Urban Outfitters
- Eyeliner – Ulta
For our next outfit idea, I styled this cheetah printed cardigan with a thin black turtleneck to keep the look from feeling too thick.
On the bottom, I added leather looking leggings, specifically the Spanx leggings you’ve undoubtedly seen all over Instagram. We talked about them in depth in our lazy day outfits guide, so I won’t go into why they’re a must-have here — but if you haven’t tried them, run to a store and you’ll see why they’re the best! These are perfect for pairing with a slouchy cardigan — they keep the look sleek but still casual and comfy enough to run errands or go to class.
Accessory-wise, you can’t go wrong with classic white sneakers. A winged cat eye finishes the look.
By the way, this outfit could also work for a night out — just swap the basic sneakers for a pair of booties and grab your favorite clutch.
Cardigan Outfit 3:
Products:
- Cardigan – Anthropologie
- Turtleneck – Bloomingdales
- Jeans – Everlane
- Boots – Dr. Martens
Finally, I decided to go bold for our final look. I started with a gorgeous yellow and white cardigan, then matched it with a yellow turtleneck for an unexpected look you won’t see everywhere on campus. It’s a shame that more people don’t embrace bright hues like this in the fall — let’s change that!
I paired the combo with blue skinny jeans and some brown boots, to keep the look balanced and the interest up towards your face.
Again, you could totally wear this for a night out — just change the shoes to something with more of a heel and add your favorite statement earrings.
