If you’re a regular CF reader, you know we adore Free People’s eclectic, boho-cool clothes and accessories. However, a lot of their pieces aren’t so budget-friendly, especially when you’re a broke college student.
So today we’re showing you how to get the look for less, using Free People’s latest editorial shoot as inspiration. The images were shot in New Orleans, and the outfits are fashion-forward yet laid-back, and ideal for springtime weather.
Let’s get to it. Scroll down to see how you get a head-to-toe Free People look… without breaking the bank.
Table of Contents
1. Midi Dress + Mules
With this look, Free People proves that we don’t need to wait for special occasions to wear a pretty dress. A few key accessories can make it work for casual daytime outings, too.
Our lookalike frock has a similar midi length, pastel hue, and button details, but saves you a full $85. Pair with woven mules, which are comfy, cute, and right on trend. Round sunglasses continue the fashion-forward vibe, while a delicate necklace and hoop earrings are timeless touches.

2. Crochet + Denim
Coachella season is upon us, and while this crochet top would fit right in at any music festival, Free People opted for an ensemble that has a bit of a retro vibe, yet still looks very current.
Forever 21 carries a similar top for under $18 and it’s paired with high-rise jeans in a darker wash. This is definitely a day-to-night look, so feel free to pair it with whichever shoes you prefer.
A simple black headband keeps your hair pushed back and shows off some statement-making earrings. For the finishing touch, add a classic red lip.

3. White + Black + Metallic
Wearing white-on-white can seem daunting, but this down-to-earth getup is the perfect way to ease into something more monochrome.
Start with your fave band or graphic t-shirt. Since that Blondie tee costs a cool $98(!), I opted for a less expensive HP version, because duh. Make sure the cuff sleeves are rolled, then tuck it into a pair of wide-leg cropped trousers.
Add contrast with a black handbag. These circle handle purses are trending hard right now and the straw-like texture is ideal for spring and summer. Finish things up with adorable metallic sandals and several polished silver rings.
