If you keep up with popular music, you’ve no doubt heard that breakout female rapper Cardi B‘s hit “Bodak Yellow” topped the Billboard Hot 100 recently. In fact, Cardi made history as the first female rapper in nineteen years to top the charts with a solo track.
If you aren’t familiar with her, here’s the rundown: Cardi B is a rapper from the Bronx. She got her start on social media, becoming Instagram famous. In 2015, she appeared in VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York. From there, she launched her music career.
This song beat out Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do‘, the last video we covered, on the Hot 100, so it’s only fair that we cover Cardi next. Let’s talk about the fashion from ‘Bodak Yellow,’ because there’s a lot of it to cover!
The music video (watch it above) takes place in Dubai and it features many trendy outfits that you could take inspiration from for casual occasions and nights out.
Cardi B has got an edgy style, and her outfits are totally in right now. Let’s check them out.

Bodak Yellow Outfit #1 – I Make Bloody Moves
In this scene, Cardi rocks a transparent beaded raincoat. This piece, though a runway favorite, hasn’t really hit the mainstream yet, but I can see it happening. Cardi, naturally, pairs it with a sexy two-piece set underneath.
Below, I’ve created a tamer take on Cardi’s look that’s still just as cute and on-trend:
Products: Romper – ASOS, Choker – H&M, Boots – Charlotte Russe, Raincoat – Boohoo
All-white pieces are still trending this fall, so start off with a white romper. Play with gold metallics by adding these cute metallic booties and choker. Then you can finally finish your outfit with that raincoat. You’ll be ahead of the curve if you invest in one of these raincoats now!
Bodak Yellow Outfit #2 – Dropped Two Mixtapes in Six Months
The next outfit is inspired by Cardi’s sheer embroidered outfit. From her eclectic patches to her smokey eyes to her bob-cut, what is there not to love about this look?
Products: Maxi Dress – Boohoo, Purse – Forever 21, Earrings – JCPenney, Heels – Fashion to Figure, Choker – Forever 21
Start off your outfit with a similar sheer embroidered dress – this one is longer than Cardi’s but it still has that sexiness thanks to the sheer fabric. Wear a lighter black body-con dress underneath for coverage.
Cardi isn’t afraid to rock some color and you should be either! Add pop with red heels (fortunately for your budget, these aren’t Louboutins) and a fur purse. Finish your outfit with an edgy choker and drop earrings.
Bodak Yellow Outfit #3 – I Don’t Dance Now
This outfit is inspired by Cardi’s latex look. It’s basic but put together and oh-so sexy.
Products: Dress – Misguided, Booties – Amazon, Lipstick – Iman, Nail Polish – Lancome, Drop Earrings – Shoptiques
Instead of latex, which can be expensive and uncomfortable, you can rock faux leather. So start off with a leather dress. This one is sexy like Cardi’s look but offers a little more coverage.
I recommend replacing the OTK boots with ankle boots, so you don’t take away attention from the dress.
There’s already enough black in this look, so when it comes to beauty, try a burgundy lip color. Cardi is already rocking that burgundy lip shade, so don’t be afraid to do the same. Continue that hue with nail polish and drop earrings.
