A Week in Her Style: Dakota Fanning

For this A Week in Her Style post, I wanted to feature a celebrity that I have not heard much about lately: Dakota Fanning. Her casual yet girly style is ideal for spring. Plus, the fact that the 21-year-old attends NYU means she’s pretty in-tune with college fashion, right?

Dakota has not been in many blockbusters lately, but has starred in several indie flicks. In fact, you can check her out in Viena and the Fantomes, out this year, where she plays the title character.

Below is a week’s worth of outfit ideas based on Dakota’s best street style looks. Scroll down to see them all:

Monday:

Now that the weather is warm, you can finally bring out your favorite sundress and bare those legs. Dakota’s adorable Steven Alan anchor print dress is pretty pricey, but this Forever 21 dress will give you a similar look for less. Edge up the dress with a leather jacket, then finish the outfit with black slide-on sandals and a trendy gingham bag.

Tuesday:

Give your typical denim cut-offs a break with a breezy, loose-fitting pair. They look super-cute paired with a cream-colored blouse and a leather jacket. It takes the white tee and denim combo up a notch.

Grab strappy sandals and a burgundy bag for a nice pop of color. Don’t forget the trendy circle sunnies for this not-so-typical Tuesday look.

Wednesday:

I know all of you have a gray cardigan sitting in your closet, so pull it out for this chic outfit. Wear your cardi with this combo: a light gray tee, a structured white mini skirt, and knee-high black boots.

This neutral outfit is perfect for a spring day, and looks effortlessly stylish. Try out this look for your early morning Wednesday final, and you’ll definitely ace the exam.

Thursday:

Denim mini-skirts are making a fashion comeback, and Dakota shows us how to rock the trend with this this cute Americana-inspired ensemble. On a casual Thursday, tuck an oversize white tee into a denim mini skirt.

Choose a pair of comfy espadrille flats– the burgundy color adds to the all-American feel. Wear a red bandana like a headband, which pulls the look together, but not in a costume-y way.

Friday:

A little black dress is go-to party staple, but I love how Dakota spiced hers up with an intricate, colorful coat. Opt for a bold red lip color this Friday, but keep your hair down and natural-looking. Complete this night out look with lace-up heels and a small crossbody bag.

Saturday:

This look might be a bit too warm for the weather now, but I couldn’t resist including it because it’s my favorite. I am a sucker for an all-black outfit and this look is giving me major edgy/chic vibes.

A plain black tee and skater skirt are two basics most of us probably have in our closets already. Just add a black biker jacket and knee-high boots (skip the tights since it’s warm) and you have a look that’s perfect for an overcast spring day.

Sunday:

This week, I’m taking inspiration from Dakota’s airport outfit to step up my lazy Sunday attire. Start with ripped black boyfriend jeans and a white crop top (or tee if you prefer). If it’s chilly, throw on an always handy leather jacket. Add black flats and a red bandana scarf and you’re good to go.
