This time of year, I always find myself settling into a fashion rut.
The problem is, I’ve worn my favorite jeans and leggings to death, and nothing I pair with them on top seems to mix up the outfit enough. And where I live, it’s still too cold for me to realistically start wearing skirts and dresses again.
My solution? Patterned pants! They’re a great way to shift the attention (and pressure) off wearing a cute top with jeans and leggings, and they allow you to break out an old t-shirt or sweater by using your pants as the focal point.

Red, White, and Patterned
Products: Pants – ASOS, Shirt – Shopbop, Jacket – Nordstrom Rack, Sneakers – DSW, Necklace – Urban Outfitters
I love these red paisley patterned pants! They’re flowy and are a great centerpiece for this patterned pants outfit.
To keep things simple on top, pair these pants with a plain white tee (or tank, or anything in between) like this one. Blue, red, and white striped shoes pull in the colors from the pants in a subtle mix of patterns.
A black leather jacket always looks bomb – but here it gives some structure to contrast the flowy legs of the pants and keeps your look grounded (and warm)!
Finally, to bring a little more attention to the top of the outfit, throw on a gold cherry chain necklace – a super cute ode to the cherry red of the pants!
B&W Tomgirl
Products: Pants – Nasty Gal, Sweater – Old Navy, Boots – Nordstrom Rack, Belt – Lulu’s, Sunglasses – Urban Outfitters
These black and white star flare jeans are the STAR of the show (pun intended)! On top, a white turtleneck sweater gives this patterned pants outfit a cozy feel for winter.
The rest of the outfit is about accessorizing – the snakeskin boots are a cool way to mix patterns, but since you can only see the front of them underneath the jeans, they don’t steal the spotlight or clash. Belt the pants with this cool black snake belt – a subtle nod to the boots.
Finally, sleek black sunglasses will pull the look together and get you ready for the day.
Not-So Golden Girl Chic
Products: Pants – Romwe, Shirt – PacSun, Shoes – Nordstrom, Earrings – Macy’s, Hair Scarf – Free People
This outfit starts off with some preppy blue and tan plaid pants! Pair them with a simple navy tee with cute little flower decorations on it for spring.
These beautifully unique tan loafers pick up the stripes in the pants and the yellow of the t-shirt and give the outfit major class-casual preppy vibes.
I’m in love with the accessories in this outfit – gold double hoop earrings give a mod, vintage look to the outfit. And finally, this blue and yellow hair scarf is a cool pattern mix for throwing your hair back on a lazy day!

I love the way you matched up the pants. I have issues wearing patterned pants because I’m scared of creating fashion blunder.
