Recently, I styled an outfit that I was super proud of. I thew my coziest Wildfox sweatshirt over a lace-trimmed, polka-dot midi slipdress from Topshop. I paired it with tights and combat boots for a cozy, chill vibe, but also added a swipe of fuchsia lipstick. Yeah, I felt like a boss.
And I thought, what an awesome, easy-yet-high-fashion outfit formula for college girls. Chances are you already have most of the elements in your closet, and the look is trendy but also so, so comfy.
To get you started, I’ve created three sweatshirt, slipdress, and bold lipstick (I recommend my fave animal-friendly brand, Smashbox) combos to suit any mood.
Table of Contents
Outfit 1: Grungy Glam
Products: Sweatshirt – Shopbop, Dress – River Island, Booties – River Island, Lipstick – Smashbox, Earrings – Lord & Taylor
While this outfit combo can be so cozy for class, it works for a party, too, if you choose to add a little sparkle and a chunky heel. This glitter slipdress is loud, so I love it with a solid sweatshirt with cool details, like this distressed one.
A lug-sole bootie literally elevates the look, in an edgy way. And I love an unexpected dark red lip with a grungy ensemble. Finish with one or two simple pieces of silver jewelry, like cool studs or a stack of rings.
Outfit 2: Rock-and-Roll-Yet-Relaxed
Products: Sweatshirt – Etsy, Dress – Zara, Boots – Hot Topic, Lipstick – Smashbox
This look is perfect for class. Both the graphic sweatshirt and the plaid slipdress are awesome enough to star in an outfit on their own, but they’re even better together. Ground the look with combat boots (embellishment=extra credit) and tights if it’s chilly.
A super-bright red lip is fun touch that takes this relaxed look to the next level, and cements your status as a professional fangirl of fashion.
Outfit 3: Flirty and Feminine
Products: Sweatshirt – Harvey Nichols, Dress – Urban Outfitters, Boots – Charlotte Russe, Lipstick – Smashbox, Bracelet – Lord & Taylor
This look has to be my fave, because it’s so springy and bold!
When choosing a bright color palette like this one, make sure the sweater picks up a color or two from the printed dress. And although it’s tempting to just throw a solid sweater or sweatshirt over a dress like this (yes, a cream cable knit would be killer), one with a graphic image is way more fun.
Add a piece of glam, feminine jewelry, like something with faux pearls. Then, choose comfy-but-chic heeled booties in a neutral that works with your color palette. Finally, add a soft and subtle pink lip. Mwah.
What do you think?
Do you like this outfit combo? Do you already have the elements in your closet? Which of these looks would you most love to wear?
