You know those days – the ones where you roll out of bed (after hitting the snooze button too many times), stumble into your closet, and have no idea what to wear? Our new series, Easy Outfit Formulas, is here to help! Every other week, I’ll feature two items (which you probably already own) that can be paired into outfits for those days when you need some quick and easy inspiration.
This week’s Easy Outfit Formula is a classic pairing of textures – chambray denim and corduroy. If you don’t yet have a chambray shirt in your closet, it’s a versatile piece that’s well worth the investment. Corduroy pants are the perfect complement (and a great alternative to denim-on-denim), plus they’re totally in this season!

A Walk in the Woods
Product Info: Shirt – Old Navy, Pants – H&M, Sweater – Gap, Boots – Forever 21, Backpack – Charlotte Russe, Earrings – Target
What goes better with chambray and corduroy than a woodsy hike on a crisp fall day? For a rustic take on the formula, pair your favorite broken-in chambray shirt with a pair of forest green cords. Layer a neutral cable-knit sweater over the top for some extra warmth, then slip on a pair of brown lace-up boots. Throw your essentials in a fun printed backpack and complete the look with a pair of cute arrow earrings.
Office Ready
Product Info: Shirt – Gap, Pants – Uniqlo, Blazer – H&M, Shoes – Charlotte Russe, Necklace – Buckle, Nail Polish – Essie in “Good as Gold”
This next pairing is perfect for an internship or a casual office. Pair a crisp, light wash chambray shirt with some winter white corduroy pants, and dress it up with a black blazer. Add some sparkle with a statement necklace and glittery gold nails. To polish it all off, slip on a pair of chic black pointed-toe heels.
Weekend in the City
Product Info: Tee – Old Navy, Shirt – American Eagle Outfitters, Pants – Old Navy, Shoes – 6pm, Bag – Aldo, Scarf – H&M
For a fun and casual ensemble that’s perfect for a weekend outing, pair some gray cords with a graphic tee. Wear your chambray shirt open over the tee, so it acts as a layering piece. Leopard print sneakers are a comfy choice for walking around the city. Lastly, add a couple pops of color with a magenta scarf and mustard yellow bag.

Love it! I’ve been wearing my chambray shirt with my cords a lot lately. It’s just so comfy and simple, but still looks put together.
it’s always hilarious when people on fashion sites say the word “hike” and have an outfit like that with it. As a fashionista and avid hiker I know that wouldn’t work for anything more than a level dirt path with a few trees around it. An outfit like that wouldn’t last a day on a real hike in the backwoods. this is a hiking outfit. http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTEWw0IHW6Z5oAIBX7IeHMc3scj7i9ts5O-U3m0OlMH19sONAyj
that is a brisk walking outfit.
Other than that I ADORE the second outfit! so, so chic! That’s how I dress when I”m not in the woods.
