When Taylor approached me to compliment my high-waisted green denim jeans, I was shocked because her outfit was the one that deserved to be praised!
As we scouted out a spot to take photos, I learned that Taylor is a true thrifter. She’s all about having a priceless look without breaking the bank. Taylor thrifted her entire outfit. I was begging her to teach me her ways!

Let’s Talk Fashion
Who or what inspires your style? “That’s really tough because I get inspiration from everywhere. I get inspiration from nature. I get inspiration from old people, even! I think just other people that I feel like [I] connect with visually. Like, I see someone on the street that I’m like ‘wow, I really like how they look,’ [and] I’ll try to emulate that in my fashion.”
Where do you like to shop? “Mostly thrift stores. Online: Etsy, eBay, and places like that. I’m not really into [shopping at] Urban Outfitters or anything like that unless I really have to.”
How would you describe your sense of style? “I usually go with however my mood is and then I try to match the style to how I’m feeling. So if I’m feeling a little punk rock then I’ll wear something like that. If I’m feeling hip-hop then I’ll wear something that matches that. But I would probably have to compare it to the ’90s era.”
What advice would you give other students looking to improve their style? “Just to not worry about what’s going on in the world of [fashion and] not to worry about how other people might see you. Just create your own vision of yourself in your own mind [and] just try to follow that.”
How would you describe your sense of style? “Eclectic. It can vary from casual to extremely dressed up. From masculine to extremely feminine. Just eclectic.”
What are your favorite fashion trends right now? “I have to say baggy clothes. They’re coming back and I really like that, you know? It just feels good that girls aren’t afraid to wear some really baggy cargo pants and pull [them] way down and wear a super crop[ped] top. That’s cool. I like the 90’s and the baggy clothes.”
Do you have any favorite fashion designers? If so, who? “Off the top of my head that’s really tough. Yohji Yamamoto is really sick. It’s like kind of fantasy inspired almost. I like anime and stuff, so it’s kind of dark, kinda fantasy… [it] kinda plays into that a little bit. Who else… Margiela.”
Do you have any unique hobbies or interests? “I guess I would do exactly what you would expect for me to do. I go to thrift stores and curate items and then I sell them back for more than I bought them for. That’s my main hobby, but other than that I draw digitally on a tablet like illustrator.”
If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be and why? “Oh my God! Oh my God! Rihanna! Number one. Gigi Hadid, no no no, Bella! Bella Hadid. Sorry Gigi! And Fran Fine from The Nanny!”
Elements of Taylor’s Outfit
1. Vintage Frames
Can we take a moment of silence please? These glasses are everything!
Taylor thrifted these frames and then got them prescribed. Glasses can be an alternative to wearing watches or necklaces. They can be worn as accessories to add personality to your outfit.
2. Vintage Nike Windbreaker
Although it’s simple in color and style, this Nike windbreaker makes a statement. The clean line of the logo added that simple, yet light amount of color. Despite the shapelessness of her pullover, Taylor did a great job balancing the top of her outfit with a body-hugging skirt.
3. Open-Toe Mules
Open-toed mules are fall essentials. Can you believe she thrifted these shoes? These mules are the ultimate shortcut to getting height, style, and comfort.
