If you are wondering if you could pull them off with short, layered hair, you totally can! It may seem like this hairstyle is for people with longer hair, but if you follow this tutorial, you will have space buns for short hair in no time.
To get this look, spray some dry shampoo and brush out your hair. Then, part your hair down the center and make two pigtails with clear elastics on top of your head. Pull your hair out a little and tease the pigtails for volume.

For those who like wearing our hair up, a bun is always a good option. However, wearing a bun if you have short hair may seem impossible. You might be surprised to learn that there are elegant bun hairstyles that work for short hair!
It all depends on what kind of bun you are making. If you have short hair, I highly recommend going for this rolled bun hairstyle. This will make putting your short hair into a bun so much easier!
Also, if you are worried about a bun hairstyle looking too casual, this hairstyle will be perfect because it creates a more fancy look for your hair that isn’t too prim or proper.
5. Scarf Hairdo for Short Hair
If you are also looking to add accessories to your short hair, you totally can! In particular, I love rocking scarves with short hair.
You may be wondering how this would work with short hair, but there are actually a couple of different ways that you can style your hair with a scarf. For example, you could tie part of your hair up into a half updo using the scarf as a bow.

11. Messy Bun for Short Hair
Another great hairstyle for everyday looks is always the messy bun! This type of bun not only looks perfect for everyday looks wear but also, if done just right, it can work for dressier events.
Even though this hairstyle sometimes looks as though there was little to no effort put into it, it can be difficult to get the perfect messy bun. (I know you all know the struggle.)
To get a voluminous, messy bun with your short hair, start with dry shampoo, brush, and then follow up with hairspray for extra volume and texture. Then, pull your hair up into a standard messy bun with a hair elastic. Finally, use clear elastic and bobby pins to pin up any hair that is still hanging down in the back. So simple!
12. Elegant Updo for Short Hair
Everyone knows that updos are always a great option for fancier events, such as proms or weddings. These hairstyles are a bit more detailed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t achieve the perfect updo hairstyle for short hair!
What’s great about updo hairstyles is that there are so many different kinds of updos that you can do. You just have to figure out which one works best for your hair length and the type of hair that you have.
One great option is including braids in your updos. For example, this hair tutorial shows a super cute updo option for short hair, which includes a pretty braid going up the back of your head.
This is just one of the many options for updos that you could totally try on your short hair! If you love braids, you could even incorporate more braids into your updo looks to spice it up even more. Or, you could also make your hair look even fancier by adding fun accessories like hair pearls or flower barrettes.
This will be the perfect hair look for whenever you need to go to a fancier event, even if you have short hair.
13. Bubble Braids
You probably have seen this kind of hairstyle a lot recently. I have never seen this hairstyle before, but the bubble braid hairstyle is super popular right now, and it is so adorable!
All you will need to get this hairstyle is some regular hair elastics, or you could even go for some fun hair elastics like the colored ones to make this look even more fun! You also need a teasing comb to make really precise parts in between your hair sections.
To get this look, you basically part your hair into sections going backward and put a hair elastic on each. Then, you start to pull out hair from the sections to create the “bubbles.” Finish with hairspray.
This is my favorite kind of bubble braid hair look because you will be able to incorporate the braided style while also being able to wear part of your hair down to create a girly look!
14. Half Up Top Knot
If you love buns, another way that you can incorporate the bun hairstyle into your hair looks for short hair is by putting your hair up into a half updo with a bun.

15. Half Up Ponytail
I am sure you have seen this hairstyle before; it is the half updo with a ponytail. If you love Ariana Grande, you know she made this hairstyle super popular!
And, while Ariana has her trademark extensions (You like my hair? Gee, thanks, just bought it.), don’t worry because it will totally look adorable on short hair as well! I honestly think this hairstyle looks even better on short hair because it creates a cute, youthful, and girly look.
If you want to get the perfect half-up ponytail on your short hair, watch this quick and easy tutorial! All you need is a brush and a hair elastic.
16. French Twist
Creating a stylish French twist with short hair might seem like a daunting task, but it’s entirely achievable. Begin by sweeping your hair into a ponytail and fastening it with a clear elastic to ensure a sleek foundation.
Next, make a small hole underneath your elastic and pull your ponytail through it sideways. (Watch the video to see exactly how this is done.) Finally, pull the ends of your hair towards your head and affix them with a few bobby pins.
Which of these cute hairstyles for short hair is your favorite?
What hairstyle are you excited to try? Where will you be wearing this hairstyle?
So every time I need to brainstorm some last-minute hairstyles, to spice up my look, I never have any good ideas. When I try to look some up, the hairstyles don’t really work with my type of hair, and most of them look really complex and “too much” and look like they take too much time. So I end up with what I had originally. If anyone has any suggestions for me, please help and reply. I would greatly appreciate it. I’ve been dealing with this for a long time now. I have shoulder-length hair, naturally curly, with loose curls, hair type, dry. aaand I’m lazy. Thank you!
I just use a claw clip and clip it up or if you want to have your hair down you can make two small pigtails with two strands at the front. I hope this helped
I tried the messy bun one and it is great. Perfect for a work/school or just a lazy day.
Adding any accessories really helps too! Grab a long strip of fabric, and see what you can do with it!
I love all of these but i suck at hair
It takes practice to get good at doing hair. I practiced multiple hairstyles and got good at them.
