As winter fast approaches, many of us are especially concerned with protecting our faces from the elements to ensure that they stay hydrated and smooth all season long.
While many people tend to have complicated, multi-step routines for most of the face area, one crucial spot that is often overlooked is the sensitive and delicate lip area.
Luckily, you don’t need a ton of products to learn how to keep your lips soft and supple during the winter.
Below, I’ve broken down four essential lip products that I use during the winter (and the rest of the year, too!). Each ensures that my lips stay as healthy and hydrated as possible, no matter the weather outside!

1. Lush Cookie Dough Lip Scrub
Available at Lush
I first tried Lush’s lip scrubs awhile back when they still made the mouthwatering salty-sweet popcorn flavor, which has since unfortunately been discontinued.
However, I found solace and soft lips in one of the brand’s newer lip scrub flavors, cookie dough.
The sweet and unique taste of this product is a bit hard to describe, as it doesn’t really taste like any cookie dough I’ve ever tried. But I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t have to stop myself from eating it by the fingerful straight from the pot. (Disclaimer: While the product is meant to be licked off the lips once you’re done scrubbing, I don’t think it’s recommended to eat a lot of it in one go).
How do you use it, you ask? Simply take a small amount out of the pot using your finger and scrub it gently along your lips. Once you’re done, lick off the excess and marvel in your lips’ newfound smoothness!
2. Clinique All About Lips™
Available at Nordstrom
If your lips need a little extra smoothing – especially if you’re about to apply lip color next and want it to go on without any snags – then you need to try Clinique All About Lips™. There’s no doubt about it; this product knows exactly how to keep your lips soft.
To be honest, I’m not sure what’s in this amazing lip serum or how it even works. What I do know is that you only need to apply the tiniest bit to your lips for it to work its magic in mere seconds.
Despite its relatively high price tag, each container I’ve had has lasted me at least six months with near-daily use, so you know you’re getting your money’s worth!
3. Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom
Available at Glossier
I’ve written more in depth about Glossier’s awesome Balm Dotcom here and here. If you missed those articles, all you really need to know is that these cute, multi-purpose balms are the absolute bomb when it comes to soothing dry, chapped lips!
Balm Dotcom is available in a multitude of flavors. However, my all-time fave pick to keep my lips soft has to be Coconut Balm Dotcom. It has a slightly sweet flavor and colorless tint, as well as a comfortable, super-moisturizing feeling on the lips.
4. Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask
Available at Sephora
The final product on the list is Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask. This soothing and moisturizing mask has a slightly sweet smell and a clear tint. It is also quite thick, so you only need to use a small amount at a time.
Due to its thick texture, I typically only use this product at night before before bed to keep my lips soft. I also find that it works best when worn over a lip balm, as it really helps to seal in the latter’s moisturizing properties.
At the time of writing, the Agave Lip Mask is not available for purchase online through Sephora or the Bite Beauty website. This is because Bite Beauty is reformulating all of its products to be vegan starting January 2020. However, I definitely plan on trying out the new formulation once it comes out!
