Let’s Talk Fashion
Who or what inspires your style? “Celebrities that I like [really inspire my style]. I really like Natalia Dyer from Stranger Things[‘s] style. She has the exact same birthday as me — January 13th, 1997!”
Where do you like to shop? “I like going to Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, and Forever 21. I like to go to the usual circuit of [affordable] brands. Sometimes I go to Primark!”
How would you describe your sense of style? “Eclectic. I wear a lot of t-shirts from things that I have been to; that’s, like, my go-to. T-shirts are a weird, like, real estate to show who you are and they are comfortable! They go with anything. You can wear them with jeans, black pants, or a skirt. You can dress them up or dress them down.”
Why did you choose this particular outfit? “Because it is cold outside! I really like maroon for the winter. I think white sneakers and black pants go with everything. The tan jacket is neutral.”
What fashion advice would you give students looking to improve their style? “Currently I am trying to find a set of essentials. Like black pants, a white t-shirt, a little black dress, a blazer… things that are versatile that you can add accessories to. I feel like I have a lot of clothes that I don’t wear. I’m looking for things that are more versatile so I can dress them up or dress them down.”
What are your favorite trends right now? “My favorite fashion trend right now is embroidery. I like the embroidered flowers on jackets and patches. I also really like jeans, jean jackets, and white sneakers.”
Do you have any favorite fashion designers? If so, who? “My favorite designer is Elie Saab. He makes couture dresses. They’re so pretty! [I am] probably [never] going to see one in real life but I love them so much. They are often inspired by nature.”
What do you do for fun – do you have any unique hobbies or interests? “I really like to do arts and crafts. I started getting into embroidery. I had to re-teach myself how to sew. I like to read. I love seeing movies. Recently I saw Coco, the Pixar movie about the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead. It was so good. I also like eating!”
If you could raid anyone’s closet who would it be and why? “Camila Mendes from Riverdale. Her style is the right mix. It’s not necessarily too girly. It’s feminine and functional. She wears a lot of skirts. I really wish I was the type of person who could wear skirts all the time.”
