It’s almost Memorial Day, which means it’s almost officially summer, and one of my favorite things about summer is brunching al fresco. Of course, I’m mostly there for the food, the conversation, and the sunshine, but I also love dressing up a little bit for brunch – and seeing what other stylish ladies are wearing.
Brunch outfits are a great place to try out more adventurous summer trends, so why not rock the breezy look that you’ve been dying to try, whether it’s towering wedge sandals or a new bag? Here’s how you should wear some of the cutest trends of the summer to brunch:
Table of Contents
Brunch Outfit 1: Soft Florals
Products: Dress – Boohoo, Hair Texturizer – Sephora, Rollerball – Sephora, Necklace – Nordstrom, Bag – Nordstrom, Lip gloss – Sephora, Shoes – ASOS
Granted, I’ve always been a big florals girl, but I love the florals that we’re starting to see for Summer 2018 – a little bit ’50s vintage, a little bit glamorous ’80s couch, a little bit of the tropical botanicals that were veryyy in the last couple of summers.
A shirtdress in this floral print has something of a classic but modern vibe, making it the perfect look for grabbing brunch with your mom or your partner’s family after a morning spent browsing the farmer’s market.
Pair a soft pink floral dress like this with a warm and structured crossbody bag in a cognac leather, and super summary tie-up espadrille sandals. A layered necklace with druzy adds a little organic element, while some dry hair foam will give your hair a bit of bedhead-y texture. Finish with a soft lip gloss for a natural but noticeable pout for an ‘oh, this?’ look that’s perfect for brunch.
Brunch Outfit 2: Vintage Plaid
Products: Dress – Urban Outfitters, Nail Polish – Nordstrom, Lipstick – Sephora, Highlighter – Sephora, Bag – Nordstrom, Necklace – Revolve, Sandals – Topshop
These plaids are a little more Peggy Olsen than punk-rock – think demure silhouettes, muted colors, and vintage details. Plaid dresses like this make unexpected but feminine no-brainer choices for unfussy weekend events, like running errands, casual get-togethers, and of course, sunny weekend brunches with your funnest coworkers or ya boo.
The sweet vintage vibe of these dresses make them a good canvas for unexpected pairings, like edgy sandals (make sure your pedicure is on point with soft yellow nail polish), a clavicle-higlighting lariat necklace, and a giant but minimal tote (a piece that’s also very on-trend for this summer). A vintage-y dark lip adds a little vampy detail, while a little bit of goldy-peachy highlighter ensures you’ll get noticed on your favorite brunch spot’s sunny patio.
Brunch Outfit 3: Raw Hem Jeans
Products: Blouse – Revolve, Salt Spray – Sephora, Jeans – Old Navy, Sunless Tanner – Sephora, Sunnies – Express, Bag – Nordstrom, Shoes – Zappos
I’m not going to lie, I was really skeptical of the raw hem jean trend when it first appeared early last spring, but this trend is still going strong and I’m kiiind of rounding on it as a cute and laid-back alternative to skinny jeans. It’s fresh and fun, and it’s surprisingly versatile – it works with edgy, boho, and minimal looks, as well as the classic look shown here.
Pair your raw hem jeans with a white off-the-shoulder top for a chill but sexy look, especially when paired with tan skin (from a sunless tanner, naturally!). Play up this chill and sunny look with feminine sunnies, an embroidered woven tote, and ultra-femme heels with a similar color scheme. Finish the look with a bit of salt spray for a beachy look. Bonus: this look comes together in just minutes, if your brunch adventure involves discussing the shenanigans of the night before with your girls.
