Attending summer classes isn’t the only way to get ahead during summer. WVU fashionista Sarah enjoys hanging around campus on her days off as a clinical associate at our local hospital. Between her rotating sleep schedule and her activities as a leader for Young Life, I managed to catch up with her to snag an interview. From her bubbly personality to her sharp fashion sense, you’ll love everything about Sarah!

Let’s Talk Fashion
Who or what inspires your style? “I get a lot of style inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram. I don’t follow many designers but I am a fan of a few fashion bloggers and well known stars and my style seems to reflect theirs. I think I’m finally to a point where my Pinterest board is a decent reflection of my closet which makes my heart so happy.”
Where do you like to shop? “Honestly I spend most of my time and money at Old Navy. I also love Marshall’s, T.J. Maxx, and Target, and I have a few favorites from Francesca’s.”
How would you describe your style? “My style is very laid-back but also a little quirky. My closet consists of mostly flowy peplum shirts and jeans, but I enjoy throwing in bright colors and patterns sometimes.”
Why did you choose this particular outfit? “I recently bought this shirt and I’m in love with it. It’s really flowy and relaxed and that’s definitely my style. These are my favorite ripped jeans. I usually don’t wear flats but I love the ankle wrap on these and the sweet baby blue color gives the outfit such a cute, feminine touch.”
What advice would you give to other students looking to improve their style? “I think I would tell other students to try their best to find their own style. College is the perfect time to find out who you want to be and part of that comes from how you express yourself through your clothing choices. During high school I went through a lot of different clothing phases. I tried to imitate what others were wearing but I never really felt comfortable in any of them. I think I’m finally to the point where I can say that my style fits who I am.”
Do you have any favorite trends? “I’m really into embroidered clothing – literally anything from shorts to skirts… I’m here for it! And like I said, I’m all about the flowy peplum tops.”
Do you have any favorite fashion designers? “I’m a big fan of Kate Spade… her purse serves as one of my staples and I love it! I also love Anthropologie and Free People… they carry clothing that is so quirky and fun and I want my closet to be more like that.”
What do you do for fun? Do you have any unique hobbies or interests? “During the school year I spend most of my time studying. College is hard but it’s brought me the best community and I really enjoy being a student. I’m in Young Life, a ministry for high schoolers, and I lead at a local high school. It’s the most rewarding thing I do. I also love yoga!”
If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be? “Honestly, I think I would raid Mary Kate Robertson’s closet. She’s John Luke Robertson’s wife from Duck Dynasty, yes. But I follow her Instagram and blog pretty closely and she’s so cute! There’s so many outfits that she posts about that I could see myself wearing.”
Elements of Sarah’s Outfit
1. Accessories on Accessories
There is a LOT of detail in Sarah’s outfit. You probably already noticed, Sarah carries her baby blue accent color through her entire ensemble. Her lace bralette peeks through her sheer white blouse as a nod to the summer heat. Even her Apple watch band incorporates baby blue!
Sarah’s short Kendra Scott necklace is her go-to accessory — here, she layers it with a long tassel necklace. Plus, who wouldn’t drool over that stunning engagement ring?
2. Ripped Dark-Wash Jeans
I am the biggest fan of the single rip at the knees in these dark wash denim skinny jeans. Sarah sports these well-fitted babies cuffed up to show off her fancy footwear. Looking for a pair of your own? Check Old Navy.
3. Baby Blue Flats
There is something so cute about a pointed toe flat. Add lace up ankle straps and they make an entire outfit. Sarah loves the femininity of these shoes, but my heart was stolen by the little cutout details.
